Almost perfect
The Camelbak Rogue hydration pack is a small backpack that holds 70 oz of water and a has two small areas for cargo. It has a long plastic tube that comes out of the water bladder and ends in an L-joint with a valve. To drink from the tube, you bite down on the blue bite valve and suck on the tube. The L-joint has a valve that lets you shut off the water to prevent accidental leaks. Unlike older Camelbak designs, you can fill the bladder without removing the bladder from the pack, by simply lifting up a flap towards the top of the pack.

Camelbak makes way too many different hydration packs, but this one is my current favorite. Here's what I like and don't like about this one:

1. This pack holds 70 oz of water. Other models hold more and some other ones hold less. I've found that 70 oz is a good balance between too little water and too much water (too much water is too heavy).

2. This pack has 2 small accessory compartments which are the right size for holding keys, sunglasses, cellular phones, MP3 player, and your wallet (and not much else). One compartment is towards the bottom and the other is part of the flap which you flip up to access the filling area for the water bladder. Both are zippered. Camelbak also has a separate phone holder which can be mounted on the front of the backpack straps, which keeps the phone closer to where you need it.

In my view, it has just the right amount of storage for a day outside and reflects a good balance between storage amount and weight.

3. The pack insulates the water bladder, so if you fill it with ice, your water will stay cold for hours. I usually fill the bladder 80% with ice, then add water, and then put into the pack.

4. The pack has padding strategically placed on the back of the pack to allow air to get under your back. This keeps you from sweating directly onto the pack.

5. My only criticism is with the external fill port. Because that filling cap is not insulated like the rest of the bladder, when you have ice water in your pack, water from the air condenses on the plastic screw cap and then runs down the outside of the pack. It also gets absorbed into the flap that covers the fill cap (which contains storage as well). It hasn't been a major problem, but my earlier camelbak packs (which didn't have the external fill port) didn't have condensation problems at all.
Fantastic
Although designed for cyclists, I use this pack for hiking/running... Does the job perfectly... mouth piece is comfortable to use, almost impossible to damage - no wear and tear... You can adjust the water tube to come over your right or left shoulder... Water stays cool for long periods of time... i run about 10km with this pack in burning heat(Bahrain),water is plentiful... Includes a chest strap which you can adjust up and down your chest.. comfortable cushioning against your back... easy to refill water... virtually no bounce when running... enough space for storing energy bars, iPod, phone, keys, headphones, wallet... and on top if it all, it looks good...

What more could you ask for?
Quality materials, very functional
This is my 3rd CamelBak in the last 12 years or so. I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements that have been engineered into this product. The water bladder and tubing is of medical grade materials (TPU, Elastomers) and does not have the odor issues of PVC. One gets the impression that this product has been thoughtfully designed. The reflectors on the straps are great. The bladder is hung inside the bag, thus preventing it from sagging under heavy loads. The position is very comfortable on one's back and there is no shifting or bouncing on gnarly downhills unlike the older design. The only criticism is that the lower pocket should have two zippers. The reason is this: it opens very wide in an inverted U-shape fashion. If you forget to zip up on the trail, you will loose whatever is inside- and I have seen my fair share of items strewn on singletracks. A two zipper format is more of an insurance as you can by habit centralize the zippers to the middle of the pack.

All in all, a really nice product at a very fair price.

Great Backpack!
It doesn't have as many pockets and storage areas as some of the other backpacks but that's the reason I bought it. I travel a lot for business and needed something that I could easily carry around at airports and meetings. It's not a bulky pack but holds all of the things I need including my laptop, files, and even water bottles. Other great features are the hidden rain cover and waterproof bottom, but best of all the pack looks great!
Good laptop bag
I use this as my daily "commuter" bag when I take the train to and from work. I will also use it as a travel bag for the airplane, but I haven't flown since I bought it.

The backpack seems to be of good quality, and the laptop sleeve is easy to get the computer in and out of.

The rainfly is a nice idea I guess, but I don't envision myself ever really needing it. The waterproof bottom is nice to have, though.

Overall, I wish the interior had some more pockets/divisions, but I am very happy with it.

Great bag for the buy.
Targus quality, and it's actually quiet roomy for me.

Even with a Dell D620 or Dell D600, there's still room for my jacket, external drives, PDA, cables for both, headphones, mini telephone directory, lunch, and whatever else i choose to put in there.

Also when placed straps up, on the backseat of car, it so far has not garnered any unwanted attention.
Well made but not as large as expected
This bag is well-made with strong zippers. The only downside is that once you put in the laptop you cannot put too many other things in there - maybe a text book or so. I was hoping for more pockets for accessories. Overall, it's a good basic bag but don't expect too many bells and whistles.

Targus Missed the Mark
The main problem with this laptop backpack, as with others on the market right now, is the location and design of the laptop sleeve. The laptop should have a compartment unto itself with room for a few accessories and maybe a folder. At the very least, in a backpack with dual "main" compartments, the laptop slot should be in the smaller section either toward the front of the pack or in a crush proof section by itself in the rear. By either method the laptop is not constantly banged by books and other materials as one moves, and it does not bear the weight of the materials when the pack is laid on its flat side. Unfortunately, Targus missed the mark in all these regards. The laptop sleeve is attached to the very BACK of the pack in its LARGEST compartment. So when you put the largest and heaviest items in that section (e.g. text books that don't fit in the other "main" compartment), each time you walk you can feel and hear the items in the large compartment banging against the laptop in its sleeve (in the same compartment) at the very back of the pack. Furthermore, when you lay the pack down on its back, you can just see the weight of the whole pack bearing on the helpless laptop in its sleeve. The sleeve, by the way, has no rigidity, is very thin, and has no closure flap to keep out dust, dirt or paper clips. Other problems include shoulder straps that are too thin on the padding, and not even a single strip of reflective trim on the pack for safety. All in all, Targus -- generally a leader in this field -- has put out a poorly designed, inadequately field-tested, and unjustifiably expensive backpack that will put your laptop at risk.
The best laptop case I've owned
Upon my fifth business trip, overcoming hurdles at airport security, climbing onto courtesy buses, and walking what seemed like miles with the strap from my laptop case strangling me, I thought it was time for some ingenuity in design. This case fits the bill. I was a little apprehensive to purchase this on-line, so I ran through the brick and mortar stores for hours. I researched cases with handles and wheels, backpacks, and backpacks with wheels. This was the best design and most reasonably priced case I found.
First, the amazing comfort. Even when I stuffed the case with my laptop, tools, cables, and three liters of soda, this case balanced my load without strangling me, unlike attaché style cases with a shoulder strap. My load felt 75% lighter and was easier to carry. Ample pockets, zippered mesh compartments, and a padded 14x20 (15" screen) laptop compartment. I'd suggest measuring your laptop dimensions to avoid disappointment.
It's built rugged and looks better than the photograph. Ample padding on the shoulder straps, which are adjustable, as well as a waist-level belt which I don't have much use for. And, a removable cellphone pocket which can be moved for left or right hand makes this the perfect accessory for the road warrior.
Little Pricey, But Nice
There's a lot of good in this bag and only one bad, but I'll get to that in a bit. First, the good. Nicely constructed, seams are double sewn in many places. There's a tough vinyl bottom. All exterior zippers have string extensions. There's a sturdy handle on top (this is great, since a flimsy one would crimp your hand). The waist band helps lighten my brick heavy laptop (8 lbs!). The back padding is a nice touch, since it would be a bear to have a hard laptop against your back for a long period of time.
The laptop compartment just barely holds my 15" brick, I mean Dell. The placement is in the back, where it should be. Protected between my big gut and a pile of books. There's a cell phone holder, it's OK. Not sure where to place it, since the only two places to place it seem to be very high or very low on the shoulder pad.
So, what can I complain about? The shoulder straps a a little too thin. That's it, nothing too bad. . .
My comments to some complaints:
Too many zippers? Naw.
Does it need a crush proof section for the laptop? Nope. That would be too rigid for a backpack and would add weight.
Place the laptop in the front section? Would you place the heaviest item in your backpack in the front?
A closure for the laptop section to keep dust/dirt/paperclips out? That might be nice, but not necessary. I'm going to work, not the mountains.
No reflective trim? Buy some and tape it on if you want it. I don't!
I do not mean to offend any previous reviewers, just wanted to respond to some issues that they had.

This is the best Notebook backpack I've ever owned.
This is the Targus Sport Standard Computer Backpack Model #TSB215. It is the same as model Model #TSB212 (there is a picture of this type on the Amazon{.com} site) except that is has blue fabric where the Model #TSB212 has a platinum color. This ensures that this backpack doesn't look like your average computer bag and that is an added bonus if you ask me.
The bag itself was designed by people who really know what is needed in a notebook backpack. Finally enough space to take something more than just a computer. You can add some books and there is plenty of space for all the wires/batteries/mouse etc. There are separate pockets all over and they are useful in size and lay-out. There is a variety of mesh pockets on the inside and they are fantastic for disks and smaller things. There is even a cell phone bag attached to front of the one of the straps that comes off if you don't need it.
The notebook pocket is located right in the back in the largest compartment of the bag, and thus reducing the experienced weight to the absolute minimum. The notebook pocket is firmly padded and this pocket is suspended so when you put the bag down the notebook will not hit the floor.
Overall I'm thrilled and since a variety of well-known brands have opted for this design to become their standard backpacks, I'm not surprised. Well worth the money and a great buy!

The best bag for my Acer
I don't buy laptop bags sight unseen, so I went to Staples, Office Depot, and Best Buy with my 10" Acer with 6 cell battery to see what would fit. Good thing because of all the bags that claimed to fit up to 10.2" screens, only two actually did. I could cram the netbook into a couple of others but they either didn't close or barely closed, and there wasn't room for the power supply, etc. Of the two that fit, this one most comfortably also held the power supply, cord, and my small mouse, plus there is also room for a slim notebook (the paper kind), a pen, and a small mousepad. In addition, this one has a shoulder strap and the other didn't.

One reviewer remarked on the lack of zipper over the netbook pocket. I agree a zipper would be a nice addition, but if it's raining hard enough for water to "pour into the bag," as the reviewer said, I doubt a zipper would be guaranteed protection on a bag that is not fully waterproof. But if water damage is a real worry, put the netbook in a sturdy plastic bag that fits and then put it in the case.

Based on two things I bought the bag from Best Buy, not Amazon: (1) people saying that they didn't get the right item, and (2) to be able to use it for a few days and ensure I really liked it, so I could return it easily if not. It was worth a few extra bucks to avoid the hassle of possibly having to return it to Amazon.
Beware of Rain!
It's a handsome, lightweight, convenient bag. Great in all respects--EXCEPT for the fact that there is no zipper to close the compartment where the netbook goes, there is just the top flap. If it rains, water will easily pour into the bag through both open ends of top flap. If there were just one zipper, this would be the perfect netbook bag.
TSM097US is great, assuming that's the item you receive
I was at the local Best Buy and saw the TSM097US for $30. It was the perfect Netbook bag that I was looking for so I quickly checked Amazon on my iPhone and saw the same model for only $12.90 so I purchased it from Amazon.com instead.

I received the shipment and instead of it being the TSM097US it was the TSS097US which is a large laptop sleeve.
I knew $12 for this nice bag was too good to be true however the product model # and photo on Amazon.com matched.

So chances are if you're ordering the TSM097US for $12 you won't be receiving what you're expecting.

This is a great laptop backpack
I saw the Targus backpack in a store and then went home to Amazon.com to use a gift certificate I received from them to off-set the purchase cost. It arrived three days later in excellent condition. This backpack is very nice, and I have been using mine for two weeks.

What I like most about it is the padded shoulder straps and back. Carrying this pack is far less painful and clumsy than a traditional laptop bag (which also looks like a purse) and takes me back to my college days sporting a backpack around campus to haul huge loads of books. With a laptop in it, the pack still has room for a couple of books, cables, connectors, rechargers, my power supply, pens, my company ID badge, etc.

There are two side pockets perfect for 12oz cans of beer [cough cough], ahem, I mean V8, or soda pop if you prefer. They are water-proof lined to prevent condensation from leaking out.

There is also a pocket on the very back that is lined similarly that can hold a hot or frozen lunch for you and keep it at temperature for a couple of hours without melting your computer or supplies.

An excellent way to tote your stuff and far superior to all other backpack solutions I have experimented with in stores like Fry's, Target, and luggage stores.
Really big and holds a lot
The Feren Backpack holds my Dell Inspiron E1505, widescreen 15.4" laptop, 3 books, a couple of folders, my wallet, pens, pencils, personal items, water bottles, and lunch. It is pretty comfortable to wear on the back or over 1 shoulder. Because I'm short, it is often difficult to lug it in and out of my car, but I love it. Sturdy carry handle on top and plenty of pockets and a cell phone case that detaches.

A great bag with the features you need
After my last bag fell to pieces (while I was carrying it up stairs, no less), I needed to find a new one. My main requirements were that it be vertical, have a shoulder strap, and be rugged enough to survive my use of it. I found all of that with this Targus bag. It has plenty of space, so I can carry my laptop, papers, books, and accessories, all without overloading the bag and stretching the zippers. At the same time, the bag is large but not overwhelming, in large part because it only contains padding where it's needed: around the laptop. Elsewhere the bag is much thinner (but still thicker than the average bag), so you don't end up adding bulk where you don't need it. It's convertible, and the way it's done is great, so I actually use the backpack straps when the bag gets heavy so I won't damage myself or put too much strain on the shoulder strap.

If you have a Mac, this bag is extra nice because it fits the MacBook 15" and its accessories perfectly. The front pouch even includes labeled and perfectly sized pockets to put the power brick, Apple remote, iPod, and a mouse if you choose to use one. I've yet to find a single thing I don't like about this bag, other than that maybe I can put more stuff in it than my doctor would like me carrying on my back.
AWESOME bag!
I received my Targus Radius Convertible a few days ago, and all I can say is "WOW"!!! I have owned a Targus brand bag in the past, and I must say I was never too terribly impressed with the quality. I purchased this bag based on other reviews I have read, and am glad I did. This bag certainly changed my view of Targus products. Not only is the bag made of really durable material, it looks even BETTER than any of the pictures I found on the internet!! Everything fits very nicely, and even with the bag "loaded", it does not appear bloated or lose its' shape. The material is rigid, yet expandable. I can't say enough good things about it! I own a MacBook Pro, and this is going to do just the trick for me! Great for the office, traveling, and even throwing on my back on occasion when I have a long walk in the airport and have bags hanging from my shoulders and need to throw the laptop on my back. Great move to "penetrate" the Apple market, Targus! People who purchase Apple products usually expect more, and you certainly delivered!!
Backpack that you can wear with a suit

My requirements were simple:

I wanted a bag that could

1. Convert between a backpack and shoulder strap
2. Look absolutely professional (e.g. not stick out while carrying with a suit)
3. Hold up to daily wear, rain, etc. No babysitting nice leather, etc.

Reasons: Well, sometimes I carry a big musical instrument around the cities I live in, on public transportation. So I can't use a shoulder strap bag in this case, I have to use a backpack bag. But on the flip side, sometime I find myself in situations where a backpack just doesn't look very professional. (presenting in a board room, meeting high profile private donors, that cute girl who is looking for a sugar daddy business man but will fall for the musician once she meets him. anyway.) I needed a cross between a leather brief that would pass in the board room, and a bag that I could put on my back and forget about.

The Targus Radius Convertible Messenger/Backpack TSB07701US is perfect. (check out the Sumdex Impulse for a smaller version)

The metal zippers, fasteners, and rings all have a very classy finish and look to them.

I could do w/o the olive-colored side trim (prefer all black), but the bag still looks great.

I've carried it with a suit and it looks great.

Back pack straps zip away seamlessly, are easy to get out, and are a lifesaver when carrying an old, heavy POS laptop!

It has a side pocket with breathable mesh that is PERFECT for a small fold-up umbrella. You can stick your wet umbrella in there while riding the Metro, and the mesh will dry out during the day. This sounds like a small detail but it's REALLY nice to have a place to stick your wet umbrella when negotiating commuters, doors, your lunchbox, whatever.

Somebody complained about the metal zippers clinking while walking. .... huh? Not a problem, here. Perhaps not a good bag for ninjas?

Lots of sub-organizing pockets and mesh zipups on the outer compartment - it was the perfect air travel carry on, actually, to keep earplugs, airborne, travel itinerary, book, snacks, etc, all organized and within quick reach under the seat.

It's designed for Apple crap: macbook, ipod, etc. It even has little cute pictures of your apple accessories on designated pockets. But it's not a walking apple advertisement, and it's great for all the non apple gear that I carry around. It's not the slightest annoyance, just funny to see the pictures ("Your ipod goes here. Your apple mouse goes here.")

It's not ideal for holding larger, single items, most of the space is divided up to facillitate organization and to keep the shape of the bag.

As far as looks, it will never pass for a black leather brief. I had to get used to the "vertical orientation" look. BUT, it looks just fine with a suit. So you can be functional, and a step ahead with the look. I feel kind of girly, paying so much attention to 'looks', but the fact is, you are judged on that stuff in the business world, even in a biz casual world, where messenger bags abound.

Bravo to Targus for the attention and craftsmanship put into this bag.

The amazon-ported retailer that I purchased from, Down Home Deals, gave me a complete run-around on the shipping. They had a crazy low price, but I paid for it in time and energy lost dealing with their shipping mistakes, and unapologetic, brusk communications. I gave a fair, non-inflamatory review (with low stars, of course) on Amazon, stating the simple facts, and then they came back to trash me in the response. I was surprised. Anyway. Moral of the story, I got a good product, but had to deal with a bad seller in the process, so buyer beware. I wouldn't take the chance if this item was a gift or needed in a hurry. (Btw, this bag is a great graduation gift, IMHO)

The Targus TAA-CVR600 TAA Approved Groove Notebook Backpack - Black is a great bag and is virtually identical to the Targus CVR600 15.4 Groove Notebook Backpack except for the PVC bottom and TAA travel designation. While my Targus RG0318 15.4 Gravity Backpack still gets the most use out of my laptop bags, the Groove is probably one of the best laptop backpacks out there. In terms of price the Groove averages about $5 or $10 less than the Gravity. For the features and durability offered by this bag, it's a great value.

Some of the important extras offered by the Gravity are absent from the Groove version. The Gravity has extra compartments and other features to allow for more storage and utility. The dedicated notebook pouch in the back and larger main storage compartment allows me to store much more in the Gravity than in my Groove.

But for those with 15 inch notebooks and less storage needs, the lower price and better looks of the Groove make it an attractive option. The simple black color of the Groove is definitely more attractive than the grey and black color of the Gravity.

A 17 inch laptop is probably too big for either bag, though you *might* be able to squeeze one in with some modifications. Really, these bags are made for 15 inch laptops and will accommodate some of the newer 16 inch widescreens as well.

The arms are the traditional straight design, not as ergonomic as the newer curved design. Unfortunately that is true for both of these backpacks. It's still comfortable enough, but just not as easy to put on and take off.

Conclusion

Even with the shortcomings, those who need a good durable bag at a great price will love the Groove. If you need more storage then go with the Gravity. Either way, they are both great bags that have held up well for me over time.

Excellent laptop bag for exceptional price
While laptop backpacks are not a favorite among most I find that a nice backpack is more comfortable than a brief case, especially this one. The Targus TAA-CVR600 is padded and comfortable to wear and provides excellent protection for my notebook computer. There are a variety of pouches to hold everything from my power cord to my external hard drive and they are easily accessible. This bag provides a nice balance of comfort, style and efficiency for an unbeatable price.
Great bag - nice features
I bought this at a Black Friday sale maybe four years ago and have used it almost daily, as well as for domestic and international travel, and I have found it both versatile and sturdy. Now the zipper seams have ripped, but I wouldn't have expected more of any bag after four years of heavy use. Granted, I haven't had any other bags to compare with, but overall I have been very pleased with this bag. Now that I need a new bag, I think I might just buy another one of the same.

Among the features that I like are the many useful pockets, in particular the side pockets (with internal sleeves) that I see most bags don't have nowadays. It also has mesh pockets, although you can't really use both side pockets and mesh pockets at the same time. The front pocket is also nice and has little straps and pockets for holding pens, thumb drives, cell phone etc. as well as a clip for securing keys. The padded laptop insert is more than big enough for my little 12" Mac laptop.

On the negative side: it doesn't look that great. Dull, black, cheap-looking nylon. But it does the job. Personally, I would have liked it to be a bit bigger, since I use it as a overnight (or over-two-to-three nights)/carry-on bag on trips, but for daily use it is more than big enough. All in all, it's a steal.

This is the 2nd Targus backpack I have bought for my husband. I did a lot of research on various brands. He loves this one and it's reasonably priced. The style is simple but very functional. Very good quality and great for a lap top. I'd reccomend this to anyone in the middle age group as the style is subtle but yet handsome.
Just what I needed!
I travel Monday through Thursday every week, and going through security and protecting my back are both concerns. This backpack has been perfect for keeping me comfortable, organized, and whizzing through security, since I just unzip the middle and send it on through. The only annoying thing is that just because I'm ready to go through doesn't mean the people struggling in front of me in line are!
Nice case, lightweight, fits well
I bought this case to replace a similar one from Targus that I bought about 10 years ago and for which the zippers finally wore out. This case is similar to my previous one but is less rugged. In particular, the fabric seems thinner and the bottom of the case lacks the reinforcing hard plastic bumpers that my old one had.

On the plus side, this model is lightweight and fits my small-to-medium frame better than my old one did. (The straps on my old one seemed designed for a beefier person than me; they were set so wide that they tended to fall off my shoulders unless I cinched them up tightly.) And like my old one, this case has the internal air cushions that cradle the laptop and give excellent impact protection. My old case safely transported by venerable Dell across continents for many years; I hope this model endures so well.

On the down side, I wish this case had more interior pockets. While it has plenty of raw space for things like chargers, spare batteries, calculators, and office items, there are few ways to organize stuff effectively. I wound up buying some vinyl zipper bags to segregate items within the accessory pocket.

All in all, a nice case ... and the zip-through feature works great. On a recent trip through Atlanta and Miami International, TSA seemed knowledgeable about the zip-through feature and didn't balk at all, which saved me a lot of time and aggravation going through security.

I searched the proverbial High and Low for a computer backpack that wouldn't let my stuff get wet in the rain. Most backpacks have exposed nylon zippers where more water than you'd think comes through between the teeth. I found a couple of camping backpacks with optional rain covers but not much designed to hold a laptop and keep out the elements, until this one. When it rains in Chicago, the wind blows it in every direction including under your umbrella. Walking to and from the train station in the rain soaked the contents of my old computer backpack, despite the umbrella. The Targus Monogram has an elastic-rimmed rain cover that stows completely out of the way when not needed and has very effectively kept the entire pack dry in wet weather. As far as everyday concerns, the pack and straps are shaped and padded well, and I am surprised how much lighter it hefts than my old computer backpack. The compartments are adequate but not especially roomy. It holds just enough of my work-in-progress papers and office-on-my-back needs (I was tired of being pack-mule boy anyway), a book to read, and a compact umbrella in the exterior sleeve they provide for a water bottle.

The pictures on the Amazon site are good and helped convice me this would do the job. I try to buy only what lasts and this seems fairly durable.
Great value.
I took a look at a lot of laptop backpacks online and chose this one due to the great price offered by the seller. I am very pleased with the product. It is bigger/wider than I thought it would be, which might not appeal to a lot of smaller people, such as myself. However, I got the pack so I wouldn't have to carry so many bags between work and home, and the size of the bag allows me to carry client files along with the computer, so, it's all good.

Just got this on clearance, so far so good!
Got myself a new Macbook Pro recently, and needed to find a way to make sure it stayed nice and dent-free. Spent a lot of time looking online yesterday for a good bag, but all the ones I liked seem to fall in the over $100 range. After spending all my money on the Macbook Pro, I needed something cheap. Lo and behold, I stopped by my local Best Buy this morning, and found this bag on clearance. Not sure if I am allowed to post what I paid for it here, but I will go ahead. If I don't see this review on Amazon, I know I will have been edited by the Amazon gods. Anyways, I got it for $35! The main selling point was the convertible messenger to backpack function. It was also probably one of the better looking bags, with some style, versus just boring black. The only complaint I have so far is that the over the shoulder strap is attached to the midway point of the bag, so the bag "pivots" for lack of better word if you pick it up by the shoulder strap. Once you put it on, it is not so bad. But for the price I paid, I can't complain. Heck, I might even be willing to pay full price for this thing!

Bought this for my husband, who wanted a large professional-looking computer bag that wasn't too stuffy. This is great. He loves the convertible strap - great for walking or bike-riding. Holds quite a bit of stuff in addition to the laptop. Shopped around for prices - Amazon's was the best, especially with free shipping.
did not fit my 15.4' laptop
WARNING - this laptop is not for "gaming" 15.4' laptops. while my laptop fits fin inside the backpack - it will not fit inside the inner compartment made to keep it stable and padded. i have about an 11' wide laptop and it's about 2'.0 shy of going in. THAT'S A LOT.!! the ad should read, fits SELECTED laptops.

this is otherwise a good backpack. good space and good materials.... now if only that inner compartment was made adjustable...

Great Bag!
This bag is great and slim and holds more than it appears.

My warning to you is to make sure that you have the plastic clips fastened correctly. There have been times when I put them together upside down and the bag fell off carrying an expensive MacBook Pro inside. Luckily those MacBook Pros are built fairly well and only took a few minor dents.

For you single people, it's a decent conversation starter (how I met a good friend of mine). This girl asked me where I got my bag because it is very unique looking and I got talking to her about how it environmentally friendly it is. She was really interested in it, but we started talking about other things and now we hang out every so often.

Overall the bag is great and works great for protecting your computer in rain because the zipper is on the side instead of on top where rain can leak in. If you're in a crowded metro train or bus, you can leave it on without having to worry about hitting another person in the face if they're sitting down. The back pouch can hold just about anything you need to go with you and your computer. That little zip up pouch on the strap is quite handy for holding my cell phone or my metro pass. The orange zip pocket on the back is great for storing thumb drives, sharpies, and other small things that quick access is needed for.

The inside cavity is innovative in that it has a soft cushy area to hold your computer and will soften the blow when you set your bag down. There's a pocket on the in side of the flap that is excellent for holding power bricks and cables.

It's only downside is if you have a ton of books to carry across campus, this bag might be able to do it, but you're really straining your shoulder. But by itself, it is light and easy to carry around.

I'd recommend this if all you're going to carry is your laptop, a couple electronic devices, some school supplies, and maybe your lunch.
As A College Student...
The bag is built well as far as I can tell. It has held up no problem to 2 months of abuse. It holds a fair amount of things. I can get my laptop, big textbook and two spiral paper notebooks in it pretty easily. The only problem is is that the one shoulder design really puts a lot of stress on your shoulder especially well riding a bike with it on. The style is ok, it looks pretty good but can appear really "boxy" at times if it is full. For those who don't need to ride a bike with it and can deal with the shoulder stress it is a good backpack, otherwise I would look elsewhere.

This product has a very cool design, that's what caught my attention. Although $60 is a too much for retail price, I'm glad I got mine through Amazon. The color on the exterior and interior are more pale than in pic seen in most online store. Now, the most important thing I'm concern about the bag is the plastic clip on the strap. It doesn't look very "strong", taking into consideration it's the only thing that keep the bag on your shoulder or on the floor. The clip is made of very thin plastic and the hook in the strap is so little (I think I can yank it apart if I apply a little force, but I'm not about to try it out >__<). I'm still a little hesitated to put my laptop inside and walk around campus.

Makes air traveling much less painful!
I had no problem with using this bag through airport security and it fits fine under the seat. It's a very roomy bag and I was able to fit three changes of clothes plus heels. Here's another trick for using this bag: put your liquids in a bag between the two compartments so when you unzip the bag to go through the x-ray machine, you can toss your liquids into a bin. No need to fish it out of the main compartment.

Pros: Bag itself is light in weight; convenient design to breeze through airport security.

Cons: lightweight construction - not likely to hold up with rugged and frequent usage; the only hold handle on the top of the bag is the padded web connecting the 2 shoulder straps - a separate handle would be stronger; the inside pockets could be designed to be more usable; a separate magazine/newspaper pocket would have been nice.

Versatile and well made.
I despised lugging my 17in laptop in its shoulder strap case across campus. Initially I wanted a SwissMade backpack, which are carried in Best Buy. However when I checked it out, it couldn't fit my laptop, and I was surprised how small the bag was. The price was high as well. Instead I ordered this Targus and was pleasently surprised. The built-in laptop case easily carried my 17in laptop, although now it carries my 15.4in equally comfortably. It has two waterbottle holders, carries all my books, is very well made, and has several layers of pockets. I use it for school, for vacationing, and for hiking; it suits all the above purposes very well. It makes carrying my laptop for long distances much easier. Highly recommended.

It's much more than what you see in the pictures, the two main zippers are as big as the backpack itself and the second one has 2 extra compartments where you can carry a great deal of things... It's very light weighted and very confortable... and for that price I'd buy two more if I had more than one pair of shoulders... ;)

I bought this for college, so if you were looking between this and other targus backpacks for that purpose I strongly recomend this one because of the size, the other backpacks are as good... but they were too big or too expensive for my taste...
Great Backpack
I bought this backpack laptop case for my son, who begins college in the fall. First of all, amazon's shipping is once again nothing short of incredible. I ordered this yesterday morning, and it came this morning. It was shipped via the free shipping offer. Way to go, Amazon.

As to the bacpack, it is a really nice product. Targus is known for not making junk... and this is no exception. It is made very sturdy, has logical storage compartments, and the zippers/pulls are quality (should last a long time). This will be a nice tool for him to carry his MacBook Pro to and fro with.

If you are looking for a good laptop backpack, this one delivers! Now hopefully he will do well in his frosh year of college. 2 graduated, to in college and 1 in hs... life is movin' along!

Excellent laptop and carry-all for commuters
I have had the Targus rolling notebook backpack for almost 1 year and use it every week to carry my laptop, work papers, lunch, snacks, etc to the office. I commute by train with 10 to 15 minute walks through suburban and city streets on either end. I've taken it through rain and snow and it still looks new and keeps everything dry. It's taken a lot of abuse over this time but the wheels still roll smoothly and it is easy to get over curbs. Other reviewers mentioned inadequate laptop padding but I've found that my laptop is well padded against normal bumps and jostles. It holds quite a lot and is good for day trips. My only somewhat negative comment is that if you are petite, you will not be able to comfortably use it as a backpack when fully loaded. Larger individuals will not have a problem with the weight when using it as a backpack and pulling it is no trouble regardless of your size.
A compromise between backpack and rolling case.
When I selected this bag, I thought that I would switch between rolling and backpack functionality regularly. However, this hasn't turned out to be the case. For a backpack, this is a very heavy bag. Also, once you stow the straps for rolling, it takes a few minutes to free them up again.

From the rolling perspective, the stowed straps can sometimes get in the way.

For it's size and weight, it doesn't have that many storage areas. I am a traveling technologist and I carry a lot of small devices and cables, in addition to my laptop. With this case, I've had to dump most of these in the one large compartment.

And very annoyingly, one of the rivets holding one of the wheels on has broken through after only 4 months of regular use.

My advice: if you primarily roll, get a rolling bag. If you primarily carry on your back, get a backpack.
Absolutely meets my needs.
I was looking for a reasonably-priced unit that could double as a carry-on bag for the stuff I really do not want to check as baggage. The Targus TSB700 15.4 Rolling Notebook Backpack looked like it would work. I recently used it on a week-long trip by air. It held all the laptop's gear in its many compartments. All the items I usually put in my standard carry-on more than fit in the separate center compartment. I was able to leave the carry-on bag at home. The stuffed-full bag fit in the overhead compartment and under the seat of a "real" airplane, but not overhead in the small commuter planes. During my 3-hour lay-over at the airport, I could easily drag the bag around. The backpack is comfortable to wear. (I am not young and athletic!!) The wheels roll very easily, and the shift from wheeled bag to backpack is quick and easy -- like when I had to grab the airport bus to change terminals. Access to the laptop is easy, since you have to pull it out every time you go thru security. It was particularly nice to be able to pull out the laptop and its inner padded carrycase (included) when I had to check the bag at the airside at the last minute on a crowded, teeny little commuter plane.

I looked at comparable units that were advertised as weekender computer cases. Most were not backpack-convertible. All were much more expensive. I am really happy with my purchase.

Great so far
(2005) Two months with this bag an it's still getting me to school. I haven't had any reliability issues.
The good:
1) It'll hold everything. I carry so many books to school I used to carry a backpack and a laptop case. Now I just have this bag.
2) Big straps to hold the load.
3) Lots of compartments to help devide up and secure the stuff.
4) Padded back
The Bad:
1) Laptop sits between your back and your load. It's padded, but this doesn't stop the weight of the load from resting on your computer. It should be a hard case.
2) Big straps that are too wide to leave much room for flexibility in the arms.
3) Useless little mesh pockets.
4) Dividers aren't removable.

EDIT (Nov 2006): I've been forced to quit using this bag. After 1.5 years of heavy use with heavy loads, the main zipper gave out and tore away from the bag. Targus says they have a lifetime warranty, but good luck collecting. I still loved it and plan to get it fixed.

EDIT (June 10, 2007): Targuus seems to have lightened up on their warranty policy. Without a receipt, and without having registered, I was able to warranty this bag. Targus sent me a new one.

I had been carrying my notebook computer in a standard notebook case (not a backpack) and began deciding to leave my notebook at home instead of deal with the discomfort of carrying it through an airport or large building. Someone recommended that I try a Targus backpack, and I have not regretted switching a bit.

The RG0322 Matrix is a great Backpack. The shoulder straps are well padded and distribute the weight very well. There is plenty of room inside to hold everything I need to carry with me, while not causing my arms to ache after a short walk with it.

I know people with other brands of notebook bags that have had problems with zippers coming apart. The zippers on this bag seem to be very durable, and after using it for about 6 months I have no complaints with the quality of construction.

When traveling on quick overnight trips the bag is roomy enough to carry my notebook and all it's accessories, any paperwork I need for business meetings, clothes and toiletries. It wouldn't replace a suitcase for a long trip, but for the quick overnighter, this is not a bad bag.

I thought I would feel uncomfortable replacing my 'briefcase style' notebook bag with a backpack. I was concerned that it might not look as business-like as it could. After I bought the Targus backpack I started noticing how many other business travelers also carried notebook backpacks, and realized my concerns were wrong.

The Targus Matrix backpack is a great product at a reasonable price. If I had to go back and do it again, I would buy the same thing.
Too bulky
Though this backpack has ample room for what I needed to put in it, it's construction is stiff and it is huge, no matter how much stuff you have in it - it's like carrying a small child wherever you go. Also, the zippers are not the best quality - one is already totally broken and another on its way after only one year. The only plus is the separate laptop compartment - that is handy as I have a relatively large computer.
